I dont know about anybody else, but most 'Irish pubs' are about as Irish as my left foot. (But then again I am Irish, well I could play for Ireland, me maternal grandmother was a Sheehan)
If you want an Irish pub, go to Ireland!! I do, most years when she will let me.
You can have a real blast at some of the little bars of the beaten track in the states. I havent had the chance to explore too much around the 192 but I will make it my mission next time I am over.
I actually like the bars where all the bikers go, cheap and cheerful!

Must admit, I feel the same way as Karl. Can't really understand why people should want to travel to another country , thousands of miles away
just to look for an "Irish" or "British" pub (or fish and chip shop!) Invariably they turn out to be disappointingly plastic inside with poor quality food and drink compared to the real thing.
My mother was also Irish so I had (and still have) , a good few relatives in both Northern Ireland and Eire.
There are so many really fantastic places around Orlando and Kissimmee
to eat and drink like a king. I must admit to being totally unimpressed by all of the "English" establishments there which seem to be set up more to give the US customers a taste of why so many Brits go abroad for their holidays! _________________ Kevin |

Girls may be lovely, guinness may well be cold but our crowning glory is the weather..............
if you don't like the weather in Northern Ireland, wait 20 minutes.
not to mention soda bread, potato bread, wheaten bread, veda bread!!!!!!!
we have a lot of bread (all of the above can be fried or toasted and you English folk don't know what you are missing!!!!!!!!) _________________ constantly looking for shiny new things............

Was bought up on potato bread, soda bread, wheaten bread (can't say I've had Veda Bread - whassat?) from the Ormeau Bakery in Belfast.
Stuffed myself with it - fried, toasted, buttered with Kerry butter !mmm
Although I can get potato bread in England - it doesn't taste the same as the Ormeau Bakery stuff !! _________________ Kevin |

Kevin
Its hard to beat the bread made in Norn Iron.
Veda bread is a small loaf made with malt flour, and it has a dark colour. Looks like treacle bread.(Do you get treacle bread?).
Barmbrack (or brack as my mum calls it) is another popular one here.
I used to work in a Home bakery so I know my Norn Iron breads!
Anyone need a food parcel sent?
As for Irish Pubs abroad...Can't have them, and EVERYONE wants to tell us about them when they hear our accent. Go to Dublin for the best in Irish Pubs. _________________ Karen

Well that's sparked off a great debate! I must say that you can't beat a pint of the black stuff ~ especially when it's served in Dublin! So do agree with the general opinion that there's really no such thing as an 'Irish' pub abroad!
Must say, we don't normally go for the 'British pubs' abroad - usually give them a VERY wide berth ~ however, have tried, amongst other bars - the Irish Pub in Universal (Delancy St opposite Blues Brothers show) - and so would go to the Irish Pub in Disney -again to see what it is like as we would any other bar!
By the way, any bar is a good bar when a happy hour is on! _________________ Les

Let me see? name beginning with "K" ??
Kathleen? Koleen ? Katherine ? Katy ? No - - I give up - who could you mean ?? (Just kidding - honest!!)
Barm Brack - oh that brings back memories !! Thats like a currant loaf innit?
I do think I have had veda bread now, but probably thought it was malt loaf. Only problem with the wheaten bread was for some reason it used to bring me out in a heat rash ? But I did like it. _________________ Kevin |

Karen, you must have tried Guiness and Black? Ok a real 'girlie' drink but takes the edge off the black stuff if you're not too keen!
I'm ok with ice cold guiness - it's good for you! _________________ Les
